Jen > We crossed over the Big Horn mountains coming back into Wyoming. We luckily caught the sunset just as we crested over the first group of mountains and caught some amazing pictures here.
Jen > Thursday Sheridan WY and Deadwood SD. We stopped first in Sheridan WY to do some shopping in authentic cowboy gear stores. We shopped at Kings Saddlery with a group of kids who had just completed a rodeo competition nearby. Later that afternoon we stopped in Deadwood SD for a little gambling, dinner, and to pay homage to Calamity Jane's final resting place. RIP Calamity!
Jen > She's buried next to Wild Bill Hickock, an infamous Wild West outlaw. Here next to his gravestone, someone's laid out the poker hand that he was holding when he was shot in the back of the head. We left soon after dinner and drove four and a half hours to Chamberlain SD, home of that bridge in the first shot of this series.
Jen > Friday, we logged fifteen hours driving. We stopped for dinner in the Wisconsin Dells and had fun blowing off the local boys in a bar there. We tried to stay in Chicago, but this did not go well. The hotels were extremely overpriced and scary. Finally after several failed attempts, we found a place way off the highway in a suburb of Chicago. On Saturday we drove another 13 hours and were home. The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson, the book we've been reading aloud to each other summed it up for us perfectly: "I was home. This was my state. My license plate matched everyone else's. No one would look at me as if to say, "What are you doing here? I belonged."
